Basic Obedience Beginners Class

Six Week Course - $120 • Oct. 13 – Nov. 17 • Monday evenings • 7:00pm – 8:00pm

The key to a happy, well-behaved addition to your family is a well-socialized companion who respects the rules of your household and listens as well as responds to your commands ON and OFF leash. This starts with the most basic commands and an obedience program that will teach you how to teach your pet. A structured class will help to provide the necessary socialization your pet needs and your trainer will help you troubleshoot any other problems that may occur.Our six week program will help you learn the essential commands that are a MUST for any dog and dog owner and may even one day save your dogs LIFE.

Class Outline

Week 1

  • Discuss class goals, what you hope to accomplish through training.
  • Discuss pros and cons of various leashes and collars
  • Properly socializing your dog
  • How to properly greet and leave your dog to avoid separation anxiety
  • Train watch, sit, stand and introduce release words
  • Show exercises to review at home, homework

Week 2 

  • Review homework and go over any problems from last week
  • Discuss grooming, nutrition, and general health tips
  • Stand for examination
  • Introduce down and stay, using release words
  • Show exercises to work on at home, homework

Week 3 

  • Review homework and go over any problems from last week
  • Discuss common problem behaviors such as jumping, digging, seperation anxiety, barking, counter surfing, submissive peeing, nipping, chewing, leash aggression, marking, and stool eating
  • Introduce leash manners to enable loosh leash walking and heel
  • Show exercises to review at home, homework

Week 4 

  • Review homework and go over any problems from last week
  • Discuss dogwalkers, Doggie daycares, and Dogparks (ie., what to look for, what to expect…etc)
  • How to properly break up a dog fight
  • Introduce come and the automatic sit
  • Show exercises to review at home, homework

Week 5

  • Review homework and go over any problems from last week
  • Distribute the final test
  • Discuss shelters, pounds, rescues, stores, and breeders
  • Discuss CGC test and therapy work
  • Introduce leave it, take it, and off
  • Show exercises to review at home

Week 6

  • Review everything and discuss any remaining problems
  • Final test for graduation
  • Graduation party and pictures!!!!!
  • Bring a camera!!!!
  • What to expect after training, how to continue with everyday exercises
